'Gemeni' is a remake of a Tamil film starring Vikram. Story of this film is routine. Venkatesh who played the title role has appeared in an out and out mass role after a long time. But the movie is pale and failed to elevate the hero.

Gemeni is a rowdy who maintains a gang in a slum in Vijayawada. Another gang is headed by Ladda (Kalabhavan Mani). His life is essentially about settling scores with Ladda. He meets his lady Manisha when he goes to a Marwari place on dhandha. To win her love he joins a night college where she studies and makes friends with her. Meanwhile a strict police commissioner Viswanath (Murali) comes to the city and deals the rowdy gangs with a firm hand.
The sincere cop also believes in reforming the rowdy-sheeters. He arrests Gemeni but leaves him taking an assurance that he would take the reform path. Gemeni's rival Ladda continues to bother Gemeni.
Though Gemini really decides to change his lifestyle to win the heart of Manisha, Ladda tells the Commissioner that he had decided to join the mainstream to get out of the prison. Even after becoming a changed man, Manisha hates Gemini. Ladda teases Gemini to become a rowdy sheeter again. Ladda tells Gemini that he would leave him, if he helps him to rob Nizam's jewellery. In order to get rid of Ladda, Gemini accepts to help him and get him caught red handed to the Commissioner and sends him again to the private cell. A changed Gemini takes the help of Commissioner and makes the family of Manisha, including Manisha herself, to accept their marriage.
At this juncture, the commissioner gets transferred to traffic section and a new commissioner (Kota Srinivasa Rao) replaces him. This corrupt cop frees Ladda from the private cell. With his help, Ladda kills Gemini's right hand, called Hand (Posani Krishnamurali). Gemini decides to take revenge and tells Manisha that he could not marry her as his blood demands revenge. Finally, both Gemini and Ladda engage in a serious fight. The corrupt commissioner fires at Gemini and warns him to leave Ladda or else he would kill him. Then Gemini takes a quick decision and get Ladda killed by the commissioner in a cinematic way.
Venky and Mani are the only redeeming factors in the movie. The Victory star shows lots of style and attitude and carries off the gangster's role with his over-the-top mannerisms. But the wow factor of the movie certainly are Kalabhavan Mani's antics. Bhairavi looked pretty. She suited the character very well. Murali also did very well as the Police Commissioner.
Music by RP Patnaik is good. Background score is also good.
