'Bobby' is a tragic love story. There is no depth in the film. The storyline is poor. As compared to other tragedies like 'Maro charitra' or 'Geetanjali', which were super hit, 'Bobby' is nothing. Sobhanbabu's (debut) direction was good but lacks mass appeal.
The movie starts with the death of Bobby (Mahesh Babu) and Bhagyamati (Arti Agarwal). In the flashback there are two Mafia leaders. Both of them are archrivals against the each other. Bhagyamati is the daughter of one of the Mafia don Yadagiri (Prakashraj), while Bobby is the son of the other Mafia don KR (Raghuvaran). Yadagiri pampers his daughter as she lost her mother in the early childhood. Bobby, who was brought up abroad, comes to India with a view to return after marrying an Indian girl. Unintentionally Bobby falls in love with Bhagyamati. Both of them elope without informing their parents.
The parents of both the boy and girl resort to large-scale violence presuming that the rival party kidnapped their ward. On coming to know about the violence perpetrated by their parents, Bobby and Bhagyamathi return. Bobby takes Bhagyamathi to her house and joins her with her father. Surprised over his daring act, Yadagiri feels proud for his daughter loving such a brave boy. Moreover, Bobby takes Bhagyamathi to his house and introduces her to his parents. With this, the parents decide to shun the hatred and join hands to get their kids married and unite them together. At this juncture, Yadagiri's brother in law Koti (Posani Krishnamurali) resorts to direct action against Bobby. In the fight, Bobby kills Koti. Then again both the groups cross swords and kill one another. In the process, none of them, including Bobby and Bhagyamathi, will remain on the earth. Bobby and Bhagyamathi get married in the heaven.
Mahesh gave good performance but Arti's performance was not appealing. Raghuvaran and Prakash Raj as Mafia leaders slip well into their roles. Comedy is good. Mani Sharma's background music and songs are OK.
