'Sivapuram' is the Telugu version of the Malayalam flick 'Ananthabhadram'. Santosh Sivan, who earlier
worked with Maniratnam, has directed the film. It is dubbed into Telugu by B.Subrahmanyam. The
director tried to show different locales of Kerela. But the film lacks the Telugu nativity.
Sivapuram is a village wherein the people believe that Naga Devathas are safeguarding it. However, a
sorcerer secures the Naga Manikyam belonging to Naga Devatha, to get super powers. According to the
Sastras, a girl from the priest's family could help secure it. The sorcerer attempts to kidnap the
girl named Gayatri (Revathi), but is killed by the priest of the village. Before he dies, he gives the
Manikyam to his grandson Digambar (Manoj.K.Jayan) and tells him to secure it. Gayatri gets married.
She wishes to light 1000 lights in the Naga Devatha temple, but dies even before fulfilling it. Her
son Anand (Prithvi Raj) decides to fulfill her wish. Digambar looks for a chance to grab the Naga
Manikyam. This time he finds another girl in the priest's family named Bala (Kavya Madhavan). However,
Anand and Bala fall in love with each other. Digambar decides to eliminate Bala's family members and
enters himself into the body of Anand. And whether he could succeed in his attempt is to be seen on
the screen.
Performance:
Prithvi Raj did well as a male lead. His sequence with Revathi is fine. Kavya Madhavan looked
glamorous and did her role well. Manoj.K.Jayan's role as a baddie is impressive. Kalabhavan Mani's
role is good. Revathi got brief role and she did it with an ease. Music by M.G.Radhakrishnan is good.
The story and direction by Santosh Sivan is fine. The other technical aspects are okay.
