The most expensive film of India boosted up many expectations among the audiences. Has it reached the expectations? Just give a read.
Story: Sivaji (Rajini), a software professional in USA, after staying there for 20 years, comes back to India. By seeing the poor getting poor and rich getting richer and seeing the problems faced by many people around him, he decides to start Sivaji Foundation (University) with which he can fund the free education and free medication of the poor people. Sivaji gets in touch with politically powerful businessman, Adiseshu (Suman) for getting support for his social service projects. Meanwhile, Sivaji falls in love with a traditional girl Umadevi (Shreya). At the same time, Adhiseshu plans for the downfall of Sivaji because of fear that Sivaji might become an obstacle for his growth with charity. Adiseshu makes Sivaji loose everything and stand on road with no money left. He throws a One rupee coin at Sivaji and from there on, how Sivaji strikes back with that One rupee as inspiration and how he brings out all the Black money out from the affluent persons forms the rest of the story.
Hero's Performance: Rajinikanth as Sivaji has given an energetic performance. He looks extremely charismatic with his kind of mannerisms and awesome dialogue delivery. Surprisingly, he has used many English dialogues this time. Kudos to Rajini for making the film local.
Others' Performance: Shreya is beautiful throughout the movie, be it in songs or scenes. She looks gorgeous with Manish Malhotra's costumes. And even in acting, she has shown some maturity after a long time. She utilized the opportunity to the best. Vivek is ok with his routine comedy. Suman steals the show as the villain in the role of Adiseshu. He can do wonders in negative roles if used properly. Raghuvaran and Nayanatara make a guest appearance.
Dialogues: 1. Rajini:Vachchinadaani kante Nachchina daanni chesukovadamloney santhosham untundhi 2. Rajini: Amma! Nannu Nallaga enduku kannavamma Vadivukkarasi: Tellaga kante maasipothaav nayana
Direction:
Shankar has stuck to the routine and worked formula of a super hero fighting against the corruptive society. He concentrated more on Rajini than Sivaji (the character). But as most of the people watch this movie just for Rajini, it may work out well in the end. But, we definitely miss the real Shankar's capability of weaving a powerful script around his characters. His screen-play falters many a times during the 1st half. But the narration gets paced up in the 2nd half and gives a better feeling at last.
Other Technicians: K.V.Anand, the cinematographer walks out with all the honors for 'Sivaji'. He has used technology in a great way to bring a new look to Rajini. The way he has shown consistency through out the movie is appreciable. Thota Tharani's art work is very good. Re-recording by A.R.Rahman is just awesome. Adharani vaadu and Vaaji Vaaji songs are good on the screen with being grand and colorful. "Style Style" song works well on screen with Rajini showing his different mannerisms. Editing by Anthony is also very good though it should have been sharper in the end. Dialogues by Rama Krishna are pretty neat. Fights by Peter Hains are ok with good graphic work.
Highligths: Rajini, Rajini, Rajini all the way as usual. We can watch the movie just for Rajini Kanth's style of acting. He is at his best. But there are others to watch out in this film. Shreya's sizzling beauty, Suman's surprising performance, K.V.Aanand's super-standard camera work and finally Shankar's nature of giving the chance for Rajini to raise over the director in himself.
Pitfalls: Routine and un-interesting plot, illogical scenes, non-catchy tunes, un-natural action episodes, lengthy (3 hours) narration and a weak 1st half.
Final Analysis: The film is opened with crazy collections with Rajini factor and runs with the same. The story of the film is apt for the star image of Rajini. The film starts off very well with Sivaji being sent to Jail. As the titles roll out, he reveals his flashback. The climax is done pretty well. | |
