'Shiva 2006' is new version of Ram Gopal Varma's 'Shiva' that was released 17 years back starring Nagarjuna and Amala. 'Shiva
2006' is more of an action thriller that elevates 'heroism.' 'Shiva 2006' is not exact remake of 1989 released 'Shiva'. Except the protagonist's name and some elements here and there, it has no similarities to the original film.
'Shiva 2006' is about an honest cop dealing with the corrupted police system and police-criminal nexus. Shiva Kumar (Mohit) is fresh
out from Police academy and takes charge as sub-inspector of police. Both 'Shiva' and his journalist girl friend Sandhya (Nisha
Kotari) are idealists. 'Shiva' takes on local don Bapanna (Upendra Limaye) who has nexus with state home minister (Dilip
Prabhawalkar). As 'Shiva' takes up law onto his hands, an inquiry commission is formed. Then 'Shiva' resigns to his job and vows to
fight against the corrupted system in his own way. And how he exposes Home Minister forms the rest of the story.
Performance:
Lot of immaturity shown in Mohit's acting , only his body is impressive. Nisha Kothari adds glamour to the songs with her
curvecious body. The other cast have done upto the content. Music by Illayaraja is excellent. Throughout the film, Ram Gopal Varma's distinct style of taking dominates the film than its content. Actually there is not much story but Ram Gopal Varma narrates the film with intense action sequences and high standard cinematography of Amal Neerad stand out in the film. While the first half is just an okay, post interval scenes and action elements are shot in novel way. Storywise there is nothing new in the film. Ramu has tried to make up the film with action moments and innovative camera angles but it ends up a simple action flick.
