Satyabhama

'Satyabhama' starring Bhoomika Chawla and Sivaji with debutant director Srihari Nanu is based on the Hollywood movie 'Fifty First Dates' (Drew Barrymore-Adam Sandler). The first 30 minutes is not good, but the movie soon picks up in every department. No points for originality, but 'Satyabhama' is slightly different from regular pot-boilers and is an interesting watch at best, and a mediocre copy at worst.

Plot:
Satyabhama lives in Goa with her grandfather, father, brother, aunt and uncle. She celebrates Krishnashtami and her father's birthday, both of which fall on the same day, every day. Reason-short term amnesia after an accident. Krishna is a sand sculpture artist who is in Goa for his work, meets Satyabhama and they fall in love. The only trouble is that she does not remember him the next day. The journey of this couple with this complicated problem is Satyabhama.

Story, Screenplay and Direction:
The story is lifted from the original Hollywood flick, and Indianized for obvious reasons. It makes an interesting watch, but only if you haven't seen the original. The first 30 minutes has bad direction, bad performances and dialogues. After that the movie redeems itself once the plot swings into action. The story of an amnesia patient and her sincere love interest is very endearing.

'Chitram' Srinu ordering fashionably named dishes in the restaurant is funny. The rest of the humor in the movie comes from the situation itself. M.S.Narayana as Padma Rao in a brief but tragicomic role is good. Krishna is wasted and Bhoomika steals the show. The highlight of the movie is that the writer/director used a tragic situation and turned it into comedy. The treatment is good, and the interest level stays till the end, even though it is slightly predictable.

Tip of the Day:
'Chitram' Srinu sees a girl listening to music and thinks 'Music enjoy chestundante fast ee.'

Performances:
Bhoomika Chawla is a performer. She looks cute and carries herself well. The petite lady is a powerhouse of talent, suited for somewhat off-beat but well-written roles very well. Sivaji does a good job. Chandramohan, Melkote and Suneel play their part. Ravibabu does a different role as opposed to the village idiot he plays most of the times-and is refreshing. Krishna as the doctor, Babumohan as Sivaji's boss are wasted, while 'Chitram' Srinu and Babloo are good.

Music and Dance:
Two good songs but the rest of the music is average. Choreography is nothing exciting.

Last Word:
Borrowed storyline, good treatment and direction that needs to be honed a little-overall Satyabhama is not a bad watch.
