'Pedababu' has all the qualities that a family film should have. It has good comedy at good timing Director Paruchuri Murali really extracted the talents of the artistes in a right manner. He had an excellent grip on the subject and the screenplay is so tight in short he had done an excellent job.

StoryVillagers of Mahadevapuram give utmost respect to Pedababu (Jagapathibabu), grandson of Sivaramaiah (K Viswanath). Though he has mother (Suhasini) and stepfather Gangadhar (Sarathbabu) he disowns them. However, he is cordial towards his stepbrothers called Bhupathi and Ravindra and stepsister. On the other hand, his brothers are against him because the villagers give utmost respect only to Pedababu, though they too are the grandsons of Sivaramaiah. Neelaveni (Kalyani) and Bapineedu (Sunil) are the children of Sivaramaiah's distant relatives and Pedababu is their brother-in-law. Neelaveni develops love on Pedababu, but the latter neither accepts it nor rejects it. A rice mill owner (Kota Srinivasa Rao) bores grudge against Pedababu, as he sent him to jail for adulteration. His brother-in-law Rudraraju (Ponnambalam) once tries to attack Pedababu and loses his hand. So, he too joins hands with him to take revenge at appropriate time. At this juncture, Pedababu's stepsister falls in love with the grandson of the clerk in their house Raghavaiah (Rallapalli). The mill owner and Rudraraju incite Bhupati and Ravindra against Pedababu, who try to separate them against their wishes. However, Pedababu bashes them and promises his sister that he would perform her marriage. Still, he disowns his stepfather and mother.

Here comes the flashback. Pedababu and mother come to Sivaramaiah's house for vacations. However, his father dies of heart attack. Unable to see the fate of his daughter, Sivaramaiah decides to marry her again and pleads with his faithful worker Gangadhar to take her into his life. When Sivaramaiah approaches a saint for the muhurat of remarriage, he discloses that Pedababu was born in a star, which is harmful to his father and mother and the death of his father had already occurred. If Sivaramaiah wanted to see his daughter in long life, he needs t separate Pedababu from her. Though a child, Pedababu understands the situation and himself distances from his mother, as he loved her so much. The moment he joins her, there is every likekihood of her death, he fears. On learning that her brothers are against her love, one of the boys in the college and son of an MP (Vizag Prasad), who loved Pedababu's stepsister, takes his father to Mahadevapuram for alliance. Her brothers accept the alliance. Afraid of him, the MP and his men leave the place as Pedababu intervenes. Now, Rudraraju tries to marry her to avoid facing wrath of Pedababu, by thrashing Bhupati and Ravindra. When Rudraraju tries to manhandle Pedababu's mother, Pedababu beats him black and blue but stops killing at the instance of his mother. Like this, he saves his brothers and performs his sister's marriage. However, his mother could not understand why Pedababu disowns her. She makes several appeals to Pedababu, but he did not concede. She collapses after returning to their house in the hands of her husband. On learning about her condition is serious, Pedababu goes to her and calls her affectionately. Surprisingly, she regains her health. The film ends on a happy note with the union of the entire family.

Performance
Jagapathibabu did an excellent job. Kalyani came out of the family girl image and looks glamourous. Though played a short role, Viswanath excelled in performance as usual. Suhasini had appeared on the big screen after a long time, while Sarathbabu proved a perfect pair to her. There is nothing new in the villainy in this film and Kota Srinivasa Rao and Ponnambalam did it with very ease. Sunil played his regular style.
