Friends-turned-foes
Friends-turned-foes, describes the relationship between Teja and Dasarath today. Dasarath, who worked with Teja in films like Nuvvu Nenu and Chitram, says Teja has not paid him enough money for directing Sambaram.
The film was produced by Teja under the banner of Chitram Movies. The young director says that Teja promised him Rs 25 lakh for directing the film, plus 20 per cent of the profits.
“Teja has paid me only an initial amount of Rs 25 lakh. He promised to pay the remaining amount after the release but to date nothing has come my way,” says Dasarath, who didn’t sign a formal agreement as he and Teja were good friends.
“It was a verbal understanding but now he says he cannot pay me as the film flopped. Not entirely true. Though Sambaram flopped here, it has done good business in the overseas market,” he informs.
However Teja denies having made any such promise and says that he has actually paid Dasarath much more than the promised amount; in fact Rs 15 lakh more. “People asked me why I was paying him so much and even accused me of setting a trend as others too would make such demands. What he is saying is false and I feel grieved because I thought he was a good friend.”
